Background: Electro music evolved from disco, funk, and Krautrock, especially Kraftwerk. There are generally two types of electro - soulful electro (Freeez, D-Train, and NYC Peech Boys) and the hip hop of electro-funk (Afrika Bambaataa, Freestyle, and Newcleus). Electro-funk was birthed by Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force's 1982 track "Planet Rock". Electro music peaked from 1982 to 1985 and was revived again in the '90s with artists such as Drexciya, Anthony Rother, and Aux 88. A variant, electroclash, was born in the late '90s and early '00s with artists such as Tiga, Adult, Fischerspooner, and Little Computer People.
Criteria: The 100 greatest Electro records of all time. Songs are based on impact, influence, and popularity. Electro records that are more freestyle-oriented (such as Shannon's "Let the Music Play") are excluded.
